Teaching has always been my passion. There is nothing I love more than witnessing a child have their "aha" moment. My favourite subject to teach is reading, phonics especially! My other love is music. I can often be heard making up songs that no one has ever heard before! I love teaching the children music, especially singing and how to play the recorder.
The best part about being a Head Teacher walking into the classroom and seeing the children all engaged in their learning. I am very fortunate to have a very dedicated and talented staff at Skipness Primary School, who ensure that learning is always fun for the children. When people asked me when I was a little girl what I wanted to be when I grew up I always said a Teacher. I was inspired by my own initial school days and how much I enjoyed learning. I loved helping people and trying to teach them including making my grandparents do sums. Now as a teacher I love helping children and seeing their learning progress. In a multi-composite I can see how well children do from the beginning of P1 to the end of P7. I enjoy reading with the children and writing time when they are creative and using their imaginations to write stories. We have a unique setting in being a small school and I get to spend a lot time with each child supporting their achievement. We have a fabulous outside resource on our doorstep and the children love Forest Schools, Nordic walking, Beach cleans and being outside for activities in all areas of the curriculum. After 15 years in outdoor education, I took a break when my kids were wee and then returned to PE teaching. This time in the Primary
sector. I belive running about is an important part of children's health. It is vital that they experience many different ways to move, grouped roughly as games, gymnastics, dance and athletics. I try to make lessons fun and provide a broad base of skills in the hope that pupils find an activity they can enjoy right through adulthood. My name is Mary MacDonald, I have worked at Skipness Primary since January 2001 as Clerical Assistant, I have in the past been a Classroom Assistant, and in 2005 I took up the post as Janitor/Cleaner. |
